The Journey
Set in the breathtaking landscapes of the Karoo, Riemblaar Karoo Reserve was born from a deep love of wild, open spaces. What was once a sheep farm has been transformed into a rewilding private nature reserve, a place where the vast silence and mountain views quietly captivate all who arrive.
Our commitment to rewilding is at the heart of everything we do. Non-endemic species have been removed, fences taken down, and indigenous game reintroduced to roam freely across the reserve. Today, Riemblaar is home to Gemsbok, Grey Rhebuck, Eland, Bontebok, Black Wildebeest, and Springbok, all native to this remarkable landscape.
To share this wild and beautiful place, we built two Luxury Mountain Retreats, where comfort meets nature. We encourage guests to hike, trail run, mountain bike, stargaze, explore the reserve by car, and unwind in a wood-fired KOL KOL hot tub beneath an endless Karoo sky.

Wild Comfort
Riemblaar's two Luxury Mountain Retreats, Restio and Tolbos, are purpose-built for comfort, stillness, and connection with the surroundings. Each private self-catering home sleeps four guests across two en-suite bedrooms, set 800 metres apart with uninterrupted north-facing mountain views of the Anysberge and Matroosberg.
Every detail has been considered to bring the outside in, from large windows framing the mountains to outdoor showers, a wood-fired hot tub under the stars, and spaces that flow effortlessly for hosting. A luxurious yet authentic Karoo experience awaits.

Our Offering
Explore
Hike the mountains, trail run the ridges, mountain bike the dirt roads, or take one of our self-drive game-spotting routes through open Karoo veld.
Relax
Soak in a wood-fired hot tub beneath a sky full of stars, wake to mountain views, and let the quiet of the Karoo do the rest.
Celebrate
With two private retreats and sweeping natural surroundings, Riemblaar is an ideal venue for intimate gatherings or larger executive breakaways and team-building events.
Stargaze
Far from city lights, the Karoo night sky is extraordinary. Watch the stars from your mountain retreat, or check out the Observatory at Leeuwenboschfontein.
Riemblaar sits at the western edge of the Klein Karoo, a dramatic, mountain-ringed valley nestled between the Langeberg and Swartberg ranges in the Western Cape. The nearest town is Montagu, a charming Klein Karoo destination known for its hot springs, rock climbing, and historic Cape Dutch architecture.
Access to the reserve is via the R318, a scenic route through the Koo Valley that winds past fruit orchards and open Karoo veld as memorable as the destination itself.
